...It is said that Leo Fender (1901 - 1991) got the idea for the guitarhead of his legendary electric guitars when he saw our tambura... Even if it's not true, it sounds nice :-)
Tambura is an ethnic string instrumets that originates from 3rd century AD Mesopotamia. The Turks brought it on the Balkans during their 14th and 15th century conquers. It was played in Albania, Greece, some parts of Bulgaria... and it found it's home in Bosnia where we have the oldest written document about the tambura; with the migration of Bunjevci and Šokci it is spread to Slavonia and Bačka... the rest is known:-)

You're familiar with this, right?:-)

Besides in Croatia, where tambura is a national instrument, it is also played in Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, the United States... everywhere you can find our emigrants.

Dear visitors, tamburaši, tambura lovers and future tambura lovers, this webpage is dedicated to you.
Your ideas and good suggestions are very welcome. On this page you will find interesting texts related to the tambura and tambura music, sheet music, lyrics, a little school of tambura and of course mp3s.
We'll try to encourage songwriters; occasionally some texts will be published on the page that would be nice to turn into songs... Some compositions that will be recorded exclusively for this site will be available. What will be recorded is going to be decided by our visitors based on their suggestions. The emphasis is going to be put on instrumentals, covers and old, almost forgotten songs. At this time an info page is under construction (I hope it will soon be finished). This info page will gather into one place information about ALL people in any way connected to making and repairing the instruments, makers and sellers of strings, cases, picks... arrangers, songwriters, choreographers, i.e. all the people that you might need and that might help you with your work.
